LZ6 Sixth Form College

Our School is very fortunate to be located on a landmark, twenty-first century education campus called the Macclesfield Learning Zone.

The jewel in the crown of our campus is the Learning Zone Sixth Form College or LZ6.  The LZ6 is a new, jointly managed Sixth Form College providing education for 16-19 year olds drawn from all three partner institutions: Macclesfield High School, Park Lane Special School and Macclesfield College.

Staff from the High School are responsible for teaching all the AS and A2 level courses.  Most lessons take place in the LZ6, with some, such as science, being held in the science labs in MHS.

A new and innovative sixth form tutorial system has been implemented to ensure full integration of students within the Sixth Form College.  Specialised tutors manage tutor groups and one-to-one tutorials with students drawn from different courses.  They have responsibility for a tutorial programme based upon Every Child Matters, as well as for individual target setting and tracking student progress.

In a recent survey of sixth form students at the end of our first year in our new Sixth Form College, 94% of the students said that they would recommend LZ6 to a friend!

Details of the AS and A2 level courses available in LZ6 are provided below, together with all the vocational courses offered by Macclesfield College.  Uniquely on this campus, it is possible for LZ6 students to combine BTec and AS courses.
