Willi Wonka Production - 7th July 2008
Our annual whole school productions have been huge successes for many years now, but this year, to commemorate our new school and our 50th Anniversary, we collaborated with local primary schools to produce our own adaptation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The performances in July were simply the best yet! It was fantastic to put on a production which included primary school pupils in the cast, and all the dedication shown by staff and students over a six month period paid off! The three evening performances, and a matinee for pupils from our partner primary schools, were outstanding! Thanks and congratulations go to all involved, including our staff and students who worked so hard over many months to put on a professional show, and the primary school pupils who were very enthusiastic Oompa Loompas! Thank you all.
Art Exhibition - July 2008
Our amazing A Level and GCSE Summer Art Exhibition was held in school at the end of the Summer term. The quality of the work was outstanding. Visitors commented that it was like being in a proper art gallery exhibition. Well done to our very talented art students and thank you to Mr Shields and Miss Forster, and to our caretakers for helping them mount the display.
Students also exhibited examples of their artwork at the 2008 Culture Exhibition held at Macclesfield Town Hall in July 2008.

Healthy Schools Initiative
Macclesfield High School participates in the National Healthy Schools Initiative and held a Healthy Living Week in June 2008. The aim of the week was to raise awareness of what makes us healthy and to give the students opportunities to get involved and try many different activities. The events were aimed at Year 7 students in particular and included:
As part of Walk to School week, we held a “Walk the World” competition. Pedometers were available for students to wear for the week. Every mile a student walked counted as 100 miles on our “Around the World” chart. Each student was also given a “Walk to School” passport, so whether they were part of the “pedometer team” or not, they still got involved. Students travelling to school by bus, were encouraged to get off a couple of stops early, and parents were asked to sign the “Walk to School” passport. Each walk to school signature counted as 100 miles to the target. The form which walked the furthest around the world got a trip out to Macclesfield Forest during school time for a Form Ramble.
Activities undertaken by Year 7 students during our Healthy Schools Week included a bike ride and a trip to a climbing wall.

Winter Wonderland Music Festival - 16th November 2007
We held a wonderful Music Festival for 250 students from Special Schools across Cheshire in November 2007. The event lasted some four hours and we were pleased to welcome Sir Nicholas Winterton, MP and the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr. Barry Burkhill. One of the highlights was a very moving performance by Park Lane Special School students. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event, the first of its kind ever to be held in Cheshire. We had musicians from our school performing and some from Fallibroome and from Gawsworth. The special school teachers were delighted with how much their students had enjoyed the event.
