Macclesfield High School table tennis players have been competing at the highest level in the last few weeks as a notable season draws to a close. The Boys Under 19 team played in the North and East regional final of the Butterfly National Schools Team Championships and were very close to reaching the National Final in Grantham. The team of Richard Hague, Chris Pattison, Scott Bradley and Jack Mitchell travelled to Blackburn to play against the Perse School, Cambridge and St Mary’s Sixth Form College, Hull. It was very much a case of so near yet so far as the boys lost 5-3 to St Mary’s and drew 4-4 with the Perse School. The Perse School then went on to beat St Mary’s and qualify for the last 4 of the competition. All the team played well but Chris Pattison was outstanding and was once again unbeaten to set up a splendid record of not losing a match in any of the rounds of the Championship.
Last weekend Chris continued his great form by winning the Boys Under 16 event in the Cheshire Schools Individual Championships thus qualifying for the National Schools Individual Championships to be held in Doncaster on the 26th April.
