Silk House Charity Week

Charlie McArdle & Tom Dean (Winners of the Mini Race for Life Relay)Silk House at Macclesfield High School held their Charity Week recently in aid of Cancer Research. There were many activities including a top prize raffle! Lloyd Smith-Coates  (Year 7) won a mountain bike donated by Bicycle Smithy in Hazel Grove.  A signed Macclesfield Town football courtesy of the Silk Men was won by a member of staff!  Handmade jewellery by Rachel Wood Designs was won by Amy Stevens (Year 7) and a cuddly toy donated by the NSPCC was won by Ashley Millington (also Year 7).  The box of chocolates was won by Rachel Flower (Year 10). Other activities included aTombola, Cake Stalls, Salsa Dancing session and “Beat the Goalie” with George Jones (Year 7) scoring the most goals against our star goalies. A delicious Chocolate Fudge Cake from The Cheshire Gap was raffled off for the staff.

The Mitie CleanersThe highlight of the week was the Mini Race for Life Relay. Each form in Silk had a team of 4 and, along with some staff teams, had to run the width of the Football field in the quickest time possible. Some teams – the Mitie cleaners - just took part for the fun of it!  The winning team was 11KHS with Tom Dean and Charlie McArdle. They were presented with a trophy donated by Olympus Trophies in Macclesfield.

As a result of these activities, Silk House raised over £400in aid of Cancer ResearchMr Ward, Headteacher, said: “This is a fantastic result from our Silk House students who should be proud of the way they applied themselves to raise money for this worthy cause.  Well done all of you!”

Staff and students of Silk House would like to thank all those who sponsored them and to Jon at Bicycle Smithy, The Silk Men, Olympus Trophies, The Cheshire Gap, Alec from the NSPCC, and Rachel Wood for the Salsa dancing and hand made bracelet.
