Macclesfield Learning Zone Students Enjoy Results Day Success

Nicholas Taylor and Charlotte CaulfieldThere were celebrations at the Macclesfield Learning Zone on ‘A’ Level results day as the first cohort of students from the impressive, new campus collected their results. Students from the campus’ Learning Zone Sixth Form College (LZ6) were rewarded for their hard work with some excellent AS and A2 Level grades, and high standards were also set by LZ6 students successfully achieving BTEC National Diplomas – the vocational equivalent to A Levels. All these students can now look forward to achieving their goal of progressing to Higher Education or starting on their chosen career path.

Those LZ6 students collecting their A2 results started their A Level studies two years ago at Henbury High School, moving to the new campus mid-way through their course. Out of this year’s A2 Level results there were many outstanding student performances and 100% pass rates were achieved in subjects such as Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History, Maths, ICT, Physics, Psychology, Sport Studies, Fine Art, Drama, Product Design and Business Studies.

The success continued at AS Level with students such as Charlotte Caulfield achieving three straight A grades and Nicholas Taylor gaining four.

Deputy Head of LZ6, Jonathan Disley, congratulated this year’s students on their performance, “We are delighted for everyone who has done well in their A Level exams, along with those who have also achieved success with vocational qualifications this academic year. We wish them every success with their continued university education or career.

Ged Ward, Headteacher at Macclesfield High School, said, "I would like to pay tribute to all the students for their dedication and motivation. The A2 candidates have had to cope with moving sites half way through their course and they adapted quickly to their new base in LZ6. Thanks also for the commitment and determination shown by the teaching staff and the support offered by our parents in creating such a successful and enjoyable learning environment."

He also commented, “So many of our students obtain results beyond their expectations, and this includes those with 2 or 3 Ds or Es, as well as those with straight As. Hannah Costello (Wardle) deserves special mention as a looked-after student who has achieved three A Levels and is going on to Derby University to complete a degree in English and Television and Media Studies. Today is a day for celebrating our young people’s achievements, and praising the staff who have done such a good job.”
