Budding Authors Have Their Mini Sagas Published!

47 of Macclesfield High School’s Year 8 and 9 students are having their work published in a book following their success in a recent Young Writers’ Association competition. The students entered a creative writing competition and had to write a mini saga in 50 words on a variety of topics including horror, nature and love. The book, Mini Marvels Cheshire and Merseyside will be kept at the British Library and further libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland, providing a lasting record of the students’ achievements. The book is scheduled for publication on 31st August 2010. The YoungWriters’ editorial team is now selecting school winners with a first prize of £1000 being awarded to the winning school. With entries such as the following, Macclesfield High School is bound to be in with a good chance of winning!

- A piercing scream pierced the night sky. Joe ran, his right leg had been half devoured by the beast. The trees whipped his face as he stumbled through the forest. The beast had almost caught up with him. It leaped . . . The deafening sound of crunching bone echoed around the forest – Dom Moore
- Everyone rushing to the fairground. Lights all around me. No room to walk. The music is loud. It’s amazing. Everybody screaming, laughing and playing. Screaming with joy. The ride darted abruptly around the corner. The cart coming free from the rails. The screaming continued – Jordan Happer
