Macclesfield High School’s Cluster of Primary Schools ran an Indoor Athletics Meeting here in our new Sports Centre after school on Thursday 15th November. Once again it was an exciting and successful competition.
Seven schools took part: Ash Grove, Broken Cross, Gawsworth, Hollinhey, Ivy Bank, St Barnabas and St John’s. The schools competed in both track and field events. Boys and girls competed individually in chest push, javelin, standing long jump and speed bounce. As a team they competed in a boys and a girls relay and a mixed obstacle relay. Every pupil was able to participate.
The competition was friendly and of a very high standard. Pupils, teachers and coaches should be congratulated on this. The rivalry brought out very close results and there was only the odd point between first and last. Gawsworth turned out worthy winners with St John’s runners up once again.
The winning team from Gawsworth Primary School
Gawsworth will go through to The Macclesfield Schools’ Final at Knutsford to represent the Macclesfield High School Cluster. Maybe the school can pull it off again and win through to the Cheshire County finals where Gawsworth came third last year. Best of luck Gawsworth!
A special vote of thanks must go to Bob Lynch of Macclesfield Harriers and Adam Young from Macclesfield Borough Council for their professional assistance. Also thank you to Mrs Pettipiece from Ivy Bank for organising the Javelin. Finally thanks to the two Sporting Ambassadors from Macclesfield High School, Jordan Kenyon (Y11) and Lucy Coppack (Y10), for arranging an army of helpers from the students at the school.
