Macclesfield High School was delighted to welcome three visitors from Singapore last week. Three Heads of English from Singapore were hosted by Miss Wilson, Head of English at Macclesfield High School.

The visitors were part of a delegation from Singapore whose visit to the UK had been organised by the British Council in conjunction with the Singapore Ministry of Education. The purpose of the UK Study tour was to research Interactive Digital Media in schools and, of course, with its new state of the art IT equipment, Macclesfield High School was able to demonstrate the full benefits of Interactive Digital Media in a classroom situation.
As well as observing many English lessons, the visitors also joined the School Council for one of its meetings. They were very complimentary about the democratic process in the school and offered to set up a link with their school councils back in Singapore.
The visitors spent 26th to 28th November in school and each was able to participate in a full programme of lesson observations and discussions about, for example, ICT provision and the school’s specialisms. The delegation had already spent time in London visiting the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Separate groups also visited Tytherington and Fallibroome High Schools before coming together for lunch at Macclesfield High School in the presence of Cllr Barry Burkhill, the Mayor of Macclesfield, on the final day. Here they were joined by Emma Ainscow, Chairman of the School Council, and by two other members.
