Syllabus: AQA Home Economics (Child Development)

Assessment: Written paper at the end of Year 11 worth 50% of the marks.
Coursework: Coursework is worth 50% of the final mark. It is started at the end of Year 10 but carried out mainly in Year 11. It consists of the study of the development of a chosen child and includes a variety of research which should be carried out in the student's own time.
Content of Course: The subject content of the course can be divided into 3 sections. The Family (which includes planning a family, pre-conceptual care, pregnancy, preparation of the birth and birth); Care of the Child (which includes the new-born baby, post natal care, feeding and nutrition, hygiene, child care provision, childhood illnesses and health & service personnel. Development of the child (which includes physical, intellectual, emotional and social development, play, toys and special children.
