Fair Trade Fortnight Christine Tacon, who runs the Co-op Farming Division, visited Macclesfield High School recently to talk to Year 9 students during Fair Trade Fortnight.

Year 7


Assessment:

  • Map skills exam
  • Visit Britian - tourist brochure of Britian
  • Akosombo Dam or Village Wells - which project will help Ghana develop sustainbly?
  • Comparing flood disasters in the UK and Bangladesh.
NC Levels: Most students are expected to achieve at least a level 5 in Geography by the end of Key Stage 3 and have progressed by at least one level on Key Stage 2.

Year 10


Geography
Qualification: GCSE
Syllabus: OCR Specification B (Avery Hill)

Assessment: The course is assessed through 2 examinations and 2 pieces of coursework. Students must complete 2 pieces of coursework and this makes up 25% of the final mark. 15% is based on a River field study and the remaining 10% is a cross-unit task where students must carry out a research assignment using secondary data in the classroom. Both must be finished and handed in by the end of February.
Coursework: Paper 1 is made up of 6 questions spread out across 3 sections 1 question from each section must be answered. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes and worth 45%. Paper 2 is problem solving questions. The duration is 90 minutes and is worth 30% of the final mark.
Content of Course: Unit 1: Climate, the environment & people. Unit 2: Water, landforms & people. Unit 3: People & place. Unit 4: People, work and development.
