Year 7


Assessment:

Ongoing throughout the year on a variety of topics in pairs and in larger groups. The annual music exam takes place during Yr 7 exam week and assesses practical, listening and theoretical skills.

NC Levels: Most students are expected to achieve at least a level 5 in Music by the end of Key Stage 3 and have progressed by at least one level on Key Stage 2.
Content of Course:

Students develop performing skills on a variety of instruments including tuned and untuned percussion and keyboards. Students compose in pairs and in larger groups in a variety of styles and students also listen to and analyse Music in a variety of styles.

Year 8


Assessment:

Students develop performing skills on a variety of instruments including Guitars, Drum Kit and Keyboards. Students compose in pairs and in larger groups in a variety of styles including using music software on the computers, and students also listen to and analyse Music in a variety of styles.

Year 10


Music
Qualification: GCSE
Syllabus: AQA Music 3271

Assessment: Compositions are assessed and graded at the end of every half-term leading to the final pieces of submission, one in October and one in April of Yr 11. Students homework tasks are to come back for an hour after school throughout Yrs 10 & 11 to work on the compositions and gain extra teacher help. Students perform on their instruments both individually and in groups at regular intervals during the course leading to final practical exams during December and March of Yr 11. Listening skills are continuously assessed leading up to Yr 10 exam and Yr 11 mock exam which are past papers.
Coursework: Ongoing through the 2 years for composition and for performing leading to the above deadlines.
Content of Course: Students compose in a variety of styles on computers, instruments and/or voice as appropriate. Individual and group performing takes place at regular intervals. Listening skills are developed in preparation for the listening exam where they have to respond to previously unheard extracts of music.
